On Saturday, June, 2, 2012, The Doddridge County Historical Society will inaugurate an annual Mason-Dixon Ball. This grand affair will be held at the Doddridge County Park Banquet building at 6PM that day. Everyone is welcome. There is no admission charge and festivities will include a silent auction and an educational exhibit of artifacts from the Civil War as well as a Wall of Honor display to remember our WV participants.
Period music will be provided for the ball by the Viva String Trio from Morgantown and will include the Virginia Reel, the Star Spangled Banner, and Dixie, among the old favorites.
Carriage rides will be part of the festivities, provided by Pastor Dan Lipscomb of Smithburg. Period costumes are encouraged, but the group is also expecting many well-dressed people of this century.
Historian, Dan Wellings, of Doddridge County, will speak on the Jones-Imboden Raid, which is such a significant part of our Civil War History.
The Silent Auction will showcase many items that are part of our valuable heritage, including an original painting by WV artist Beth Crowder, an electric handcrafted banjo, handcrafted afghans and period doilies, exquisite Appalachian wineglasses, and much more. Light refreshments will be provided. (Donations will be accepted)
Professional photographer, Justin Bailey, will be on hand to capture you in your finery in a lovely sepia-toned photo for a small fee.
