When Donna Meredith wrote her novel, "The Glass Madonna," about three generations of glassmakers in her home state of West Virginia, she dreamed up a heroine who broke stereotypes and takes up the torch of the family business.
But as the Clarksburg native who now lives in Florida has so deeply found out, that heroine who bucked all odds to become a glassmaker is actually a real person.
Her name is Wayne County resident Kelsey Murphy, and Meredith chronicles her wild and bumpy ride to become one of the greatest Cameo Glass makers in history in the new book, "Magic in the Mountains: Kelsey Murphy, Robert Bomkamp, and the West Virginia Cameo Glass Revolution," on sale now at the Huntington Museum of Art gift shop, as well as at Amazon.com and other book sellers.
